New Years

What can suck the life out of a person and make them cry in public in an instant? A visit to the dog shelter. Maybe I’m a huge wuss. Maybe I’m hormonal. Or perhaps I was tired and just physically drained…I don’t know. But I walked through that shelter and just cried. And then I walked outside because I was a little ashamed of my inability to control my crying, so I went outside to calm it down. So I go out just to see a woman and kid whose dog had gotten out taking their dog to the car. I don’t blame the dog for running away. Both the mom and the kid were yelling at the dog and then the woman even used her foot to push the dog down the sidewalk. This made me mad and sad. Ugh.

I have yet to buy a single Christmas gift. My tree is still standing and decorated on the top half. Brody does climb it daily and Oprah loves to try and eat the ornaments. Love that. Jen O. did buy a 6 pack of Cokes in the cute little holiday bottles to put under the tree and no matter how much I’ve wanted to crack one open to see if a holiday bottle of Coke tastes different than a regular old canned one…I don’t want to ruin the set, so I guess I will never know.

I know that it’s time for vacation because I cannot seem to get my butt out of bed on time to save my life. It’s getting worse by the day. Only 8 more shows to go and then I will catch up on the sleeping. At least until December 28. On that day my life is going to be 6 days of fun. We are going to New Orleans for New Years! I cannot wait. Keith, Jen O., Monica, Michelle, Steve, Tammy, and I are going to bring in 2008 in the French Quarter. Is there anything better than a party on Bourbon Street? Will an amazing start to the New Year lead to an entire amazing 2008? I’m gonna go with that theory. I cannot WAIT.

  1. I saved a dog from being hit by a car once but I couldn’t keep it and the No Kill shelter wouldn’t take him because they were full so I had to call Animal Control. I told them that I did not want him put down because I had just saved his life once already. They told me that I could call in 5 days and if he had not been adopted, I could adopt him or let him be put down. After 5 days, I called and sure enough, he was still there so I went up there to get him. They made me go into the room where they keep all the animals to get him and I was crying so hard that I couldn’t see which one he was. It was the most horrible place I have EVER been in. Those dogs looking up at you with their eyes just pleading to be let free. I seriously considered opening the latches on their gates and just letting them go. But I knew how much trouble I would be in. All I have to say is now I know why most of the animal control officers I have come across are so mean and rude, they have to work in one of the most horrible hateful places in the world.

  2. Have fun in N.O. I live in Baton Rouge and went there for New Years Eve one year. Be prepared for the crowds!! There will be places where you will literally be picked up by the crowd b/c there are so many people crammed against each other. I think you said you suffer from panic attacks and I hope I don’t freak you out but just wanted to give you a pre-warning to stay in places/streets where there’s a little bit of breathing room. The French Quarter is a big place so you and your friends will have an awesome time!!!

  3. shannon…well as far as the tears go…you proved two things…1…you are a woman…2…you are a compassionate…tis truly sad how quickly can discard mans “best” friend…i have a cat…now let me sy this about that…i HATE cats…but i offered to watch this one for a hot gal…she said she would be back after Christmas break…that was one year ago…she has yet to return…i have “trained” this one to fetch and place the “mouse” into a cup before i throw it again…i was not happy to learn that male cats “mark” their territory…the s.o.b. got snipped after the first incident.
Screw Nola…come to San Antonio…we are friendlier and MUCH better looking…and for those in the “know”…the Alamo is SO much more rocking than the frinch quarter.
